Sound Blaster 16 CT1770
It's an ISA Sound Blaster 16 card with an Adaptec SCSI controller built in. My card has the v4.12 DSP.
There is a lot of information out there about all the Creative cards, so I'm not going to spend much time on this, but a few quick comments:
- It is easy to install and setup. Configure the jumpers and find yourself a copy of the sbbasic drivers. The standard Adaptec EZ-SCSI drivers can be used for the SCSI controller.
- There are several well documented bugs.
- People are hard on this card. If you aren't going to be using the MPU interface, it really isn't too bad. It's easy to setup and will work with pretty much any games without a problem.
- My biggest complaint is the background hiss. With the Ensoniq and Soundman cards, it seemed like I would get a clean recording no matter what. I was constantly fighting mixer and gain settings with this one. It is really bad in the Leisure Suit Larry 6 recording below and the Doom recordings if you turn the volume up. The good thing is noise isn't nearly as noticeable when you are actually using the card as long as you are listening at a reasonable volume.
